Professional Marble Restoration

We walk the surface with you first and point out what we see: deep scratches, cracks, etch marks, and any staining that has soaked in rather than sitting on top. That conversation is where we tell you what will come out and what will not.

Then we protect the work area. Baseboards, cabinets, walls and furniture get covered before anything starts, and the stone is cleaned with a neutral pH stone cleaner so we are working on bare marble.

Chips, pits and cracks are filled with a color-matched polyester or epoxy resin, tinted to your stone rather than to a generic white.

We slightly overfill each repair, let it cure completely, then razor it back flat so it finishes level with the surrounding marble and gets polished right along with it.

If tiles sit at different heights, that is called lippage, and it gets ground flat with coarse diamond abrasives. Deep scratches come out at this stage too, because we are removing stone until the damage is gone.

This step is done wet. Water controls the dust and keeps the stone and the diamonds cool. Not every job needs grinding, and we will tell you up front whether yours does.

We work up through medium diamond grits to erase the scratch pattern the coarse pads left behind. Each pass is finer than the one before it.

This is also where the stone tightens up and takes on an even, low-sheen finish. If you want a satin or matte look, we stop here. A great many of our customers do, because satin hides fingerprints and water spots far better than a mirror finish.

For a high-gloss finish we continue with very fine diamond pads and marble polishing compound, working the surface until the reflection comes back.

The shine is coming from the stone itself, not from a coating or a wax sitting on top of it. That is why it lasts, and why it can always be brought back later.

Once the marble is clean and dry we apply a penetrating sealer, let it sit, then buff off everything that has not soaked in so no film is left behind.
